Dún Eochla is a large stone fort located centrally near the highest point of Inis Mór island and south of the village land of Eochaill from where the fort bears it’s name.
The fort is circular and consists of two terraced walls. The inner walls measure approximately 5 metres in height, and over 3 metres in depth. The exact dates are not known of the fort but it is thought to be somewhat later than Dún Aonghasa. It has been estimated that Dún Eochla was built sometime between 550 and 800 A.D.
