Isert Kelly castle served as the principal seat of the MacHubert Burkes from the early 1400’s. The three storey tower house was stronghold to the MacHuberts, later passing hands to the MacRedmonds, both of whom were branches of the De Burgo (Burke) family.

The castle is uninhabited but still remains well preserved to this day with many architectural features still to be seen throughout the castle.

A project of excavation and discovery is ongoing of the castle which will hopefully bring to light some great history of the castle.
