Letterbreckaun is the second highest mountain of the Maumturks range. The name ‘Letterbreckaun’ comes from the Irish ‘Leitir Bhriocáin’ meaning ‘Brecan’s wet hillside’.

It is believed the mountain may have been named after St. Brecan, who is a saint associated particularly with Co. Galway. The peak of the mountain measures to a height of 667 metres (2,188ft).
