The Lettermullen and Gorumna Heritage Centre, or Ionad Oidhreachta Leitir Mealláin as it’s otherwise known, is located on the islands region of Lettermullen, the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht.
The Heritage Centre displays the private collection of old books in Irish and English as well as newspapers and magazines from times past belonging to the local historian John Bhaba Jeaic Ó Confhaola. These have since been recorded on a database in the centre which people are free to access.
The centre also plays host to a great exhibition of tools and instruments from long ago to include blacksmith, carpentry and farming tools. There is a rich collection of photographs of families in the area and of old customs practised in the area in times past, giving insight into what life was like in the region.
